In recent years, it has been becoming more of a trend to see that electronics and computers are advancing into the classroom. Many colleges and universities already offer online education for some of their classes, and some of them only offer online courses and degrees. Already, there are some schools at the high school level that are also now providing some of their students with an online education, and this is certainly only the beginning.

Teachers that expect to be able to advance within their career field will need to be prepared to bring this technology into their classroom. They will also have to be able to teach their students how to use it. In order to understand the technology, though, teachers will have to take continuing education courses or get a distance learning Master’s Degree, or higher.

One recent development that seems to be implemented well in distance learning is the use of Second Life. Currently, there are more than 300 colleges that make use of the Second Life environment. Duke University has recently added their nursing program to Second Life, and it even permits students to make real decisions concerning nursing treatment for “patients.” The experience is totally interactive.

The educational programs that use Second Life are fully interactive. Students can actively participate in the discussion, and they can even raise their hands and ask questions. Teachers can send downloads to online students, and interact with them as needed. Both American colleges and some foreign universities have a presence in Second Life.

Other schools, though, are also rapidly other forms of computer aided technology into the classroom that the successful teacher of tomorrow will need to be prepared for. While some communities will be more likely to implement technology into the classroom, it may be sooner than later.

Teachers can make up for this gap in learning by taking distance learning classes that will enable them to stay ahead of the development. In fact, knowledgeable teachers could even be asked to start the programs in their own schools – putting them in demand, and possibly providing them with an opportunity for advancement into Administration.

Online education degree programs, or continuing education courses, are available from many colleges and universities in America. These colleges also offer online degrees at every level, and many of them permit the students to take the course at their own speed.

This makes the course ideal for distance learning, and gives you the possibility of taking it at your own speed – either faster or slower than a traditional classroom setting.

One main concern of distance learning, however, is to ensure that the college offering the online degree or classes is actually accredited. There are a number of distance degree scams online and many of them show fake credentials for their accreditation. You can easily determine if a college is accredited or not by going to the Dept. of Education Web site. If there should be any further questions about a college, make sure that you talk to your supervisors to ensure that a degree from that online college will be accepted.
