Capella University is a rapidly growing online university based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Since it became accredited in 1997, many students began flocking to this entirely online university. Just a few years later, in 2004, their enrollment had reached 10,000 students.

Today, the University continues to grow rapidly. There are now more than 37,000 students enrolled in their various degree programs, and they come from all 50 states and at least 52 foreign countries. As far back as 2007 the University saw its 10,000th graduate complete the required courses.

Capella University gives students an opportunity to choose from 39 different undergraduate and graduate programs. Altogether there are more than 1,250 courses in 129 different specialized areas of study. It continues to expand its course offerings and win awards for many of its programs.

Coursework at Capella University is interactive and much of it is performed online. The online courses are structured and will have specific beginning and ending dates. Students can, however, log on at any time of day or night, and simply contribute to online discussions directed by the faculty. Much of the coursework can be done offline, such as working on reports.

Semesters at Capella are divided into ten-week sessions (quarters). There are two-to-three week breaks in between the quarters to give students a rest.

In order to provide students with excellent education, the University has more than 1,100 faculty members. These members are spread out over the United States.

The University provides many online classes at all levels. It offers certificates in the fields of Business and Technology, Education, Public Service Leadership education, and also in the area of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Many Master’s Degrees are also offered, along with several Doctoral Degree programs. Currently 80 percent of the students are enrolled in the graduate programs, and 32% are in the online Doctoral Degree programs .

Military students are also welcome at Capella.

For the second year in a row, Capella has been named as one of the top 20 schools on the list of Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities, which is given annually from the Military Advanced Education magazine. It also provides credit for military training and gives tuition discounts.

Counselors are available to help students and prospective students with more than just getting an online education. There are counselors available to help with career guidance, Armed Services support, Enrollment counselors, and more. Those with disabilities can also receive special consideration in the online classes, too, such as additional time, accessible textbooks, sign language interpreters, and more.
