DeVry University was started more than 75 years ago in Chicago, IL. The school, which operated under a different name for years, has long been known as a technical school that provided graduates with the edge needed to get ahead in their respective career fields. Today, DeVry University continues that tradition through its online learning and degree programs.

Over the years, the University combined with some other colleges and only recently became known as DeVry University. Today, the DeVry University has more than 90 urban campuses in which students can take traditional classes. Some of these campuses are also in Canada. Many of these campuses also offer online courses and online degree programs, but some of the campuses may not offer all programs.

The University focuses on five different career training colleges: Business & Management, Engineering & Information Technology, Health Sciences degrees online, Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Media Arts & Technology degrees online.

The degree programs run from an Associate Degree through various Master’s Degrees.

Online education makes it possible for you, too.

Semesters at DeVry are based on a three semesters per year program. This enables students to complete degrees faster than normal and to be able to get into their career sooner than what might be possible otherwise. An Associate Degree, for instance, can be completed in four semesters instead of two years, and a Bachelor’s Degree can be finished in three years.

The college online at DeVry provides students with access to their college courses, research materials and library on a 24/7 basis. This enables students to be able to study anytime that they are able. Other students are also available online to be able to create friendships and interact with them.

One of the specialty programs that DeVry University offers is their program called Game & Simulation Programming. This is an almost unique program that is offered particularly at DeVry and focuses on helping people make a profession out of video gaming.

DeVry University also helps students with finances, too. Besides accepting the G.I. Bill and other financial aid options, they also offer college scholarships.

Every year the school provides students with $25 million in scholarships to 7,500 students.

Students can enroll in DeVry University and take classes on campus, through online learning, or both. This provides them with the flexibility needed to complete accredited degrees at any level. Different campuses offer different degree programs. Career counseling services are also available to help students get into the career field of their choice.

When the words distance learning are mentioned, many people immediately think of the easy way out. Instead, it may actually be just the opposite. College courses offered through distance education may actually be the more difficult option of the two.

In a traditional classroom, students have the opportunity to get by while other students answer questions or provide information. Teachers also partly grade for an occasional answer and at least looking like they are interested and paying attention.

Distance Learning Student’s Input Is Often Only Papers

When a student is taking college courses online, however, the teacher actually has no input of this sort whatsoever. The only way the teacher has to know whether or not the student is learning anything, in most cases, is through the written word.

This means that the student will have to provide more information by typing it out and then sending it through an email or instant message. Students who take distance courses are probably writing more papers and sending other small assignments in order to provide the teacher with a wider range of material from which to generate an honest grade.

Distance Learning Enables Greater Concentration

A side benefit, however, may be the ability to concentrate on the materials more than might be possible in a regular classroom. When studying online, or on a computer, a student may be able to focus more fully on the subject material. They can also choose a time when there are fewer distractions – something that cannot be done in a regular classroom.

Online Learning Offers Greater Concentration

Another benefit of taking online college classes is that a student is able to reread anything that may have been missed the first time. Students in a classroom obviously cannot do this. This option can help students learn the material better and then possibly complete the course with a higher grade.

Distance Learning Permits Greater Focus on Course Material

One more factor that may help students taking courses in online schools is that they are also probably only taking a couple of courses at a time. They may also be able to choose when the course is completed, allowing them to fine tune a paper or prepare for a test a little better than those operating within a traditional semester system where there is no such choice.

Distance learning is not for everyone but it certainly does have some advantages. You can learn more now about online learning and discover if it is just the educational option you are looking for.

Many people today are working on getting their college degree online. Because of the convenience and lower costs for an online degree, many colleges are now offering many more college courses online – and many more new ones are sure to be available soon. Looking around to find your perfect program will certainly prove worthwhile. Here are some ways that online colleges differ.

They Differ in the Courses Offered

Some online colleges will offer rather a limited number of programs, or programs that are too general to be of much good. These few courses may enable you to get a degree quicker, but you should be asking if those are the courses that will benefit you the most when you need the information and credentials.

Since you can take online courses from anywhere in the world, you can also opt to take some from an overseas university – if you want. If you need to transfer the courses, you will need to make sure they will be accepted from the university you plan to attend in the future.

They Differ in the Quality of Instruction

The instructors that you have may be limited if they received a degree from the same college where they teach. This is especially true if degrees come at a low price or lead to quick degrees.

Ideally, you want a college that has teachers who graduated from other recognized universities. Even better is if they have had actual experience in the fields that they teach in.

They Differ in the Type of Instruction

If you are looking for a quality distance education that allows you to work at your own speed – and when you want – then you will have to find a college that gives you that option.

Some colleges do not offer many courses online, and you may need to take the rest in the classroom.

They Differ in Accreditation

One more way that online colleges differ is that some are accredited and some are not. This needs to be looked at carefully because some claim it when it just is not true. This is especially important if you want to go after advanced degrees or need certification. You can find out if they are accredited from the government’s Department of Education Website.

Get started now and learn more about the online degree programs you need.

Everyone knows that if you go through normal channels – a traditional classroom setting – then you can expect your degree to take a specified amount of time. What if, however, you wanted to get it in less time? If you stick to traditional means – you will continue to get traditional results. By taking your college courses online, you forego the traditional and step into the realm of new possibilities.

This occurs because you can now take the classes at a rate that you control. Assuming you have the time, you can now proceed to take and complete your online courses in less time. In fact, it could be a much shorter time than would be otherwise possible.

Why don’t you take a look now and see what online college degree or certificate you could gain soon. Your success starts with a look.

Continuing education is a powerful way to advance your career. Distance learning classes for all degree levels are available.

Career advancement should be just that – advancement in your chosen career field. With that in mind – how are you doing? A lot of people are finding themselves without jobs right now – and if it has not already affected you, then you want to be sure that you are one of those that it cannot affect. Distance learning could very well be the key to that security and career advancement that you are looking for.

Choose Your Distance Learning Objectives Carefully

As you begin to think about your own career plans for the future, you will want your college courses and distance education to match your needs perfectly. This will require that you sit down and think about where you want to be in the next five years, and then match your continuing education courses to those plans.

Cross-training is a very real possibility, if you think that expanding your abilities will be beneficial – as it would be in most cases. Also, keep in mind that job requirements change over the years and cross-training enables you to be ready for those changes – and will possibly make you the best candidate for the enlarged or specialized job.

Choose Your Distance Education College by Quality

For each of the online course or distance degree programs that you select, you will want to ensure that it will give you the best education possible for your career. Obviously, all colleges and college courses online are not the same. This means that you want to be sure that the college is accredited and that the teachers are qualified – preferably with experience in the field. Without proper accreditation, your employer may not accept any training you get – even though you paid for it.

Look around before you choose a college. Many continuing education schools only provide basic requirements for the subject material and promise a quick degree. Those that do so are probably a scam – watch out. Other colleges will give you excellent material and have the best teachers, too.

Seek Career Planning Instruction

In some cases, if you are unsure of what direction may be the best for you, you may want to consult with a career planner first. They can give you the perspective you need, and can also give you career tests to see what you might be naturally suited for.

Ensure That the College Courses Will Fit Your Schedule

Online colleges have different types of ways for people to take their classes. While most of them allow you to take them when most convenient for you, some do not give you this option. You will need to be sure that you can take it to fit in your schedule. Otherwise, you may have to log onto the school’s Web site and actively “participate” according to their schedule.

Also, be sure to see if there are any special requirements for you to have to take some classes on campus.

//-->

Some distance learning degree programs have a requirement that you be on campus for a full year if you are to receive a degree from that school. In other situations, some classes may not be able to be taken via the Internet, so you will need to know about this up front.

Distance learning education gives you the best of both worlds enabling you to continue in your present situation and get your education, too.
