Online education continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Considering that it is considerably less expensive than attending a college full-time, this growth rate is not surprising. Some say that one out of four students are enrolled in some form of distance education – particularly those that focus on the two-year Associate’s Degrees.

At the present time, most colleges and universities in the United States offer some kind of online courses. Their goal is to be able to provide instruction to an increasing number of students online. The result, according to the Sloan Consortium, is that college students are enrolling in online college programs faster than they are in traditional college courses and degrees.

Universities are also seeking to meet the demand to help students get a degree on line. Purdue, for instance, is seeking to increase its ability to handle online enrollment up to 10,000 students for the 2012-2013 school year, and to have 60 percent of its courses originating from the school (valpolife.com).

Other schools are also increasing their ability to offer courses on line, and some universities are also working to make graduate programs available, too. Business degrees, including the MBA, can also be taken through online programs, but some universities may only offer some courses for this degree through the Internet.

Some universities have sprung up recently in the last couple of decades that only offer their courses online. They do not have an actual campus. Others have multiple campuses spread over many states. Some of these colleges may require that students take some on-campus classes along with the online classes.

Career colleges also are rapidly expanding their offerings to be able to match the growing demand for students to get training online. Materials presented in the classrooms have also gone hi-tech so that online students can receive the same quality of instruction as in-class students. This includes DVD’s, videos, CD’s, PowerPoint presentations, and much more.

The University of Phoenix is currently known as the largest online college that there is in the United States. Other ones that are recognized include colleges and universities such as DeVry University, Kaplan University, Walden University, AIU Online, Capella University, and many more.

Just where a particular student should go depends on a number of factors and it will vary from one student to the next. It is recommended that you compare several online schools, and learn all you can about their programs and requirements to ensure that it will work best for you. There is a lot of flexibility between colleges in terms of cost, course offerings, teacher availability and qualifications, and possibly even in the mode of instruction through which you will receive your online lessons.

Being that distance learning has become very popular and that there are many schools that offer it, it can be difficult to choose one distance learning program over another. Choosing the wrong one, however, can lead to numerous problems – either in the learning process, or later on.

The Wrong Style of Online Class

Classes for distance education offer many different forms of learning. Some of these use synchronous learning, which means that you must log-in to some type of online classroom and participate. There really is no flexibility in the time of day – your presence is mandatory. The other type of learning, which you would probably prefer, is called asynchronous, which means that you can take the classes when you want, and often proceed as fast or slow as you want.

A Non-Accredited Online School

One very important aspect of getting a valuable education is to get one that will enable you to earn even higher degrees if you should decide to go on. This means that you need to make doubly sure that your chosen online school is fully accredited. There are many online schools that are not accredited – even though they say that they are. You need to check with the Department of Education Website to be sure that they recognize the accrediting agency. Some schools that are well known (Ivy League, and some religious colleges), however, are not accredited, but their credits will be accepted elsewhere. Find out before you enroll to be sure.

A Degree Mill for an Online College

Quality Learning Does Not Always Have to Look Like This

Beware of online universities that promise that you can get either “life credits” or an easy or quick college degree. In most cases, those are schools whose credits will not be recognized by the good ones. If you need a “real” degree for your occupation, you should not bother with this type of “school.”

A University That Does Not Help Its Alumni Get A Job

Many colleges and universities – especially career-training schools – will help you get a job after graduation. They may be in touch with people in a particular career field and can help you get launched quickly into your career. They will also help you with career-related preparation and decisions, as well.

Make Sure That You Can Get in Touch with the Instructor

Take a look at some of the reviews and comments from students who have been through the school to get an idea of what other students thought of its quality. In some online schools it is not easy to contact the instructors – which can make some aspects of the courses difficult.

Quality distance learning programs will take work. Do not assume that they are any easier than classroom learning. The good thing is that you can get an online degree, or even enroll in online Master’s programs, that provides just as much quality education and can take you just as far as a traditional one.

One of the most rapid developments in our day is the constantly changing world of distance learning. The result is that the face of education is changing in a multitude of ways. In addition, the pace with which traditional schools are trying to keep up is ever growing, resulting in a rush to adopt the newest and latest technologies to get an edge over competing universities.

Students are also flocking to the newer but lower-priced distance learning programs rather than the costly traditional on-campus methods of learning. As funding and college scholarship money dwindles, but the number of students needing education increases, there is a definite and predictable trend occurring that will look more to those with doctorates in distance education to take the reins of departments and universities everywhere to put them into positions of leadership in the field of education.

Because of the potential for a world-wide student body, many universities are looking for educators who are familiar with the methodology and the technology to be able to take their university to the world-wide stage and to be able to get a much larger piece of the educational pie.

More and more universities are now offering a distance learning doctorate or a Doctor of Education Degree with a focus on distance education. This can be expected to be expanded in the near future.

Earning an education degree at the doctorate level can take between two to four years to complete. An on-campus requirement should be expected for at least part of the program. It is also quite possible that writing a thesis will also be required. Coursework includes topics such as the design, organization, methods of teaching, and more.

Earning this advanced degree through a distance learning program (as much as possible) can enable career advancement. In addition, it may also enable the possibility to help form the direction in distance learning technology that a particular university may take – as well as possibly helping to form new directions on a much larger scale.

Universities that are currently behind in distance learning and have not yet developed a strong online college presence could certainly benefit from an individual with a Doctorate Degree in distance learning. Potentially an individual with a degree in distance education could be in demand for some time as universities seek to make the transition to include a wider demand in this field. Getting in on the ground floor can certainly lend itself to a better career as a professor, a chairman, or even higher positions.

The American InterContinental University was started in 1970 and has rapidly grown since then to become a source of international education. Campuses are located in several major cities which includes Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, South Florida, and London, England. In order to facilitate students who are not able to attend the physical classrooms, they also have created their AIU Online Webpage to assist those getting an online degree.

The University offers college degrees that range from Associate Degrees through Master’s Degrees. The college emphasizes its use of industry-current knowledge and skills so that their students are able to get the most from their career training to prepare them for real-world career preparation. Their instructors have been or still are in the career fields that they teach.

The American InterContinental University focuses on seven different career fields. These include Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Education, Healthcare Management, Information Technology, Marketing, and Visual Communication.

AIU offers what they call “Blended Learning.” This involves a combination of learning in a classroom situation combined with online learning. Some courses are not available online and will have to be taken on campus.

The University offers traditional courses in such a way that would enable a larger number of students to be able to attend – if they live near one of the campuses, or decide to live on campus during that time. Classes are available not only on weekdays like a traditional college, but AIU also offers evening classes and even some weekend options.

Students that are taking online courses have access to a wide range of materials. Courses are given in two five-week sessions, and there are four quarters in a year. The school follows the principle that adult students focus and learn better when taking only one or two courses at a time.

Once a student gets near graduation, the University has a Career Services Department.

They will help the student to secure employment and provide counsel so to help students land possible jobs.

AIU also offers the opportunity to study abroad. Their goal is to help students learn a new culture, worldview, and lifestyle. The primary place of learning is in London, England, but students may also have the opportunity to travel to Paris, France and Cape Town, South Africa.

Getting an online education at the American InterContinental University is a school that those who are looking for distance education need to consider. It could be your ticket to a much brighter future.

Many people today are working on getting their college degree online. Because of the convenience and lower costs for an online degree, many colleges are now offering many more college courses online – and many more new ones are sure to be available soon. Looking around to find your perfect program will certainly prove worthwhile. Here are some ways that online colleges differ.

They Differ in the Courses Offered

Some online colleges will offer rather a limited number of programs, or programs that are too general to be of much good. These few courses may enable you to get a degree quicker, but you should be asking if those are the courses that will benefit you the most when you need the information and credentials.

Since you can take online courses from anywhere in the world, you can also opt to take some from an overseas university – if you want. If you need to transfer the courses, you will need to make sure they will be accepted from the university you plan to attend in the future.

They Differ in the Quality of Instruction

The instructors that you have may be limited if they received a degree from the same college where they teach. This is especially true if degrees come at a low price or lead to quick degrees.

Ideally, you want a college that has teachers who graduated from other recognized universities. Even better is if they have had actual experience in the fields that they teach in.

They Differ in the Type of Instruction

If you are looking for a quality distance education that allows you to work at your own speed – and when you want – then you will have to find a college that gives you that option.

Some colleges do not offer many courses online, and you may need to take the rest in the classroom.

They Differ in Accreditation

One more way that online colleges differ is that some are accredited and some are not. This needs to be looked at carefully because some claim it when it just is not true. This is especially important if you want to go after advanced degrees or need certification. You can find out if they are accredited from the government’s Department of Education Website.

Get started now and learn more about the online degree programs you need.

Everything around you that makes your life better – or easier – began because someone had a plan. The same is true of life, too, and not just the objects that can be seen. Personal or career advancement comes not from people who daydream and are idle, but from those who dare to make a plan and then begin to make their dream come to life. Career training courses taken through online education can make it possible for you.

Make Plans for a Better Future

If you can dream about having a better life or starting in a new career, then you need to be making some plans toward that goal. Career change goals can become realistic by starting to train for that new career or for advancement in your career field. No matter whether you are working toward a Bachelor’s Degree, an online MBA, or a Doctor’s Degree, it all starts with a plan, which lays the groundwork for effective action. What plans have you made toward your better future?

Use Your Time for Career Development

When you think about it, a lot of people waste their precious time sitting in front of TV or watching movies. If you were to take even part of that time and start taking distance learning courses to improve your career, how much further would you be towards your goal in a year’s time? Truthfully, you would be much closer.

With our economy continuing to be unstable – and jobs, too – it would be a good idea to have training in more than one area. This makes you able to get jobs easier if anything should happen to the one you are at now. Seek to learn more to make yourself in greater demand. Leadership and management training are often helpful because companies need leaders.

Use a Slow but Steady Approach

You really do not have to be in a hurry to take advantage of online education. By taking one or two courses – either toward a degree online, or for career training, you can be that much further toward your new career goals. Taking the courses that will help you the most will enable you to move on up in your abilities – and possibly lead to quicker promotions.

Online courses can also be taken without cost in some cases. This may include courses like those Microsoft offers on all its software, including Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Word, and more. If you work in an office and can use this software, it certainly will help you as you become more profitable to your employer.

You can take these at your own pace and convenience.

Online Education Allows You to Be in Control

By taking the distance education programs you need online, you have the advantage of being able to take your online courses at a speed that is comfortable to you. You have access to the information you need at any hour, and will be able to go as fast as you want or as slow as you need to – it really is up to you.

A distance education may be one of the greatest opportunities you could ever have toward career advancement. It is easy to get started and find the online courses or degree programs that can benefit you the most. Make a plan now to begin to see greater career success in your future.

Once you have selected the program of online education you want, you need to be sure that you understand what is involved. While online education is great for many people, it will even be better for you if you can fine tune the process some to fit your needs. Here are some things you need to answer for yourself before you get started with distance education.

1. Can All Your Classes for the Degree Be Taken Online?

Some online programs only offer some of the classes online, the rest have to be taken on campus. This means that you have to physically attend them and these colleges generally do not waiver on this requirement. If you cannot move away to go to the college, then you will want to find another one, or one that you can transfer your credits to.

2. What is the Class Format?

Knowing about the format of the class is very important because you may need to go online at particular times to participate in the online class. Again, not all degree programs in all colleges that offer online classes offer the same kind of class. Ideally, you want to be able to get your instruction at a time that is convenient for you. This will give you maximum flexibility of your schedule.

3. Is the College Accredited?

Not every online college is accredited, and this can lead to problems.

It is possible your potential new job manager may not accept them, or that another school that you try and transfer to may not accept those credits or degrees either.

4. Will This Degree Program Benefit You Most In Your Career Goals?

One more question that you will want to consider is just how this degree or courses will help you to advance in your career. Rather than paying out a lot of money for your career training, make sure instead that it will be the best training you can get for your career goals. This way you get better mileage out of your dollar – and your online education, too.

If you are looking to get a degree in theology or ministry, you have many options to choose from. There are many colleges and universities that offer degrees in this area. Many colleges also offer liberal arts courses, and will allow you to get a minor in some area of theology. Distance education can enable you to get that degree without having to leave your home, your ministry, or your job.

Determine Your Need for Education – While not everyone is able to determine up front just how far they want to go in school, it may be a good idea when you are considering a theological degree. The main reason here is because some Christian schools (and other religious schools) are not accredited by state or government agencies (because they choose not to be), but may have their own accrediting board within their group. This means that if you should decide to transfer to one for an advanced degree – you may clearly have a problem in having a degree recognized or when trying to transfer credits.

Take Advantage of the Online Classes

Many colleges now offer online classes which will enable you to get your theological training when it is convenient for you. This means that you do not need to leave your home or your job to get your training or college degree at a distance learning undergraduate college or at an online seminary. Another advantage is that you will be able to take classes when you want and go at a speed you are comfortable with. If you have a particular college you are interested in – located anywhere – you certainly would want to see if it offers online degree programs or an online diploma.

Online classes may come in different formats, enabling you to take a form that would most suit your needs. This can range from correspondence type of courses, to an online classroom, or even a SecondLife scenario.

Look at Your Ministry Objectives

Other considerations may come into view here as well. For instance, you certainly would not want to go to a school that is not considered in line with your denomination or doctrine if you expect to be ordained or teach within your group. Earning a degree from an accepted online college program that is would greatly enhance your theological career. Training for full-time ministry or as a lay leader could be within your grasp if you keep your future ministry in mind.

Discover Availability of Financial Help

Getting financial aid is something else that you also must look at before you make a choice about what online university to attend.

Many religious schools do not take some of the more well-known grants and college scholarships. This may mean that you will have to work a little harder to try and get one of the scholarships from that college.

Distance education often means that you will be able to enroll in online classes at any time. This may enable you to get started right away in your theological training and go as fast as you want. Graduate studies may also be available online, too, but you may have to have some on campus classes in order to complete your degree. Get started now by learning more about distance learning and a theological degree.

Distance learning degrees now make it much easier to attend college and get your degree. Learn more about why an online education may be just what you need to get your degree.

When it comes time for you to get your next college degree, you will find that getting your degree online can make it much easier for you. This is especially true if you already have a busy life and need to try and fit your degree into it somehow. Here are a few ways that an online education can make getting that degree a little easier.

Less Hassle – More Time – When you are very busy, you do not want to add travel time to an already busy schedule. You can eliminate all travel time when you get your degree from home. This helps you save money on college costs enabling you to get your degree for less. In addition, you can now use that extra time to do your studies.

If you are a professional looking to get your next advanced degree, this will enable you to take the online classes when you can. It is even possible to do it on weekends only, if that is the only time you have available.

Another advantage here would be for the mother with children. Distance education now makes it possible for this mother to be able to enroll, take classes and even complete an online degree – all from home. This allows her to stay at home, watch the children, and take classes as she is able to allocate the time to it.

Military personnel, or people in other parts of the world, can also benefit from online classes. This enables a soldier to take classes at their convenience and not have to be physically present in any classroom.

Travel Is Not Required – One great benefit of an online education is that you do not have to go anywhere to get to the classes. In fact, you do not even need to get dressed or worry about how you look. It takes no time at all to get to your classes – since all you have to do is to access your computer. This is where the name “distance learning” comes from.

Most Colleges Now Offer Distance Learning Degrees – Ever since colleges have decided to offer courses online, there has been a rush to fill the gap. Most colleges now offer many courses online – making it possible to get a complete degree in many programs. Some degree programs, however, do require that some classes be taken in person on campus.

Since most colleges now offer online degree programs, this gives any student the option to choose which college they want a degree from. The major factor, of course, would be getting accepted and the cost. This allows you to get courses from top colleges and universities worldwide.

College Courses Are Now Available in Many Styles – College is not what it used to be. The digital age has brought forth new techniques and methodologies in teaching – including the world of virtual reality.

Many colleges offer their online courses through media such as SecondLife, and this is expanding to other ones, as well.

Whatever your personal goal is for more education, you can find that most anything is now available through online education. Not only does this make it more convenient, but it also enables you to receive your quality education at a lower price, too. Don’t forget to look into the possibility of college scholarships and other financial aid packages. They still are available for distance education, although you may need to look a little harder. Why not start here to see if online education is something that can benefit you?

Online education can give you the degree you want - and it can let you have some convenience, too. Be sure, though, to do a little research on the college before you pay out your big bucks for it. Here are some things you should look for.

Getting an online education is an excellent way to be able to get your college degrees. This gives you the opportunity to continue working and have as few interruptions in your life as possible – compared to what you would have if you had to move to a college and start taking traditional classes. While it really is a privilege to be able to get your degree online, there are some things that you should watch out for in order to make sure that you are actually getting the quality education you want.

Accreditation Matters – Before you choose a college to get your education from, you need to be sure that it really is an accredited degree you are getting when you complete the degree. In order to find out, it will take more than simply seeing if the college says that it is. If the college is well known, you won’t need to worry about it; but if you never heard of it, then you need to check on this. There are many fake online colleges now that are not accredited – and their teachers may not know what they are talking about. A lot of money and time could be wasted if you find out later that you did not get what you thought you were.

Availability of Classes – Another concern that you want to learn about before dishing out any cash is to find out when the online courses are available. Some distance education colleges will let you take courses at your own speed, and others will not – or it may pertain only to certain courses. In some cases you may be required to log in at a certain time and be “present” in order to get credit. Other online classes may require that you at least complete the course at the same time as the traditional class.

Completion of the Degree – Online education programs can also vary in attendance rules. While some degrees must require some classes to be taken traditionally (such as would be the case for some medical programs), you will also discover that some colleges require a full year of credits to be earned on campus. If you want to earn your online degree entirely online, then you will have to watch for this.

Costs Involved – One more thing to watch for is the total costs of your online education.

There may be some hidden costs with some colleges. Make sure you understand the full cost involved per semester and also what it will be for the entire online degree.

Financial aid is also available for online degrees. Generally, most online colleges have college scholarships available. Some colleges, or specialized institutes may not be qualified for government scholarships, but they may offer their own. The key to winning one is to follow the instructions carefully and apply for as many as you can – and do it early, too, because some do work on a first-come, first served basis. With enough college scholarships, it is possible to finish your online degree program and not end up in debt.
