Christian Distance Learning Programs

If you desire to get a degree in Bible, or just take a few courses to help with your Bible study, you now have the opportunity to pursue Christian distance learning.

It is not necessary anymore, in many cases, to have to leave home and go to another city where you can learn the Bible and get a degree in it. There are now many colleges and universities offering Christian distance learning courses.

Whatever Christian denomination you are in, there is probably a college within it that offers a Christian distance learning degree of some kind. Many Bible colleges now offer all degree levels online, and this makes it much more convenient to be able to receive a formal Christian education at your own pace and from your own home.

Ensure Doctrinal Agreement Before You Take Christian Distance Learning

Every Christian college has a particular doctrinal slant, depending on the purpose (and denomination) for which it was founded. This usually means that this same doctrinal position is held in many, if not all, of the classes. So, you will want to be sure that you are in agreement with that position in order to receive training that is in line with what you already believe - otherwise, it could be a real source of grief.

Learn the Requirements for Christian Distance Learning Courses

When it comes to Christian distance learning, you will often find that they have stricter requirements than most other colleges. Among them, there will usually be the requirement of being an active member of a church of the same denomination as the college. You will also probably have to declare that you follow the same beliefs that the college has, and you may need the approval or recommendation of a local pastor to attend classes there.

Some Christian colleges may also have activity requirements that are in line with your educational goals. Generally, this would some kind of active participation and service connected with your local church.

Determine Your Online Distance Learning Goals

Going to a Christian college teaches and prepares you for a particular career field. Whether your goal is secular or directed toward some kind of ministry, you need to find out how a particular college might help you toward your goal. Some colleges can help you better than others, and some may not do anything to help you at all.

An example of the kind of help you could get would be if you intend to become a full-time Christian school teacher, a pastor, or a missionary. Some Christian colleges are related to Christian Academies that you might be able to teach in, and some also are closely related to mission boards or are constantly aware of pulpits that need to be filled. In some cases, it may also be possible to become ordained, too, if that should be needed.

Investigate Christian Distance Learning Curriculum before Choosing

When working toward a higher level Christian distance learning degree, you need to consider what University you might be attending for the higher degrees. Different Christian colleges many belong to different accreditation groups and there could be a problem when you try to transfer from one institution to another. You may also expect a problem if you transfer from a Christian college to a non-Christian college, too, since many of the courses may not be recognized at a secular school.

Understand Requirements for Taking Online Distance Education Courses

Online distance education courses come in basically two forms - either you have to follow a specific schedule, or you don't. If you must follow a schedule, then you will most likely have to log on to a Web site each week for an online session. If this is not required - which is the more common of the two options - then you will be able to take the course or Bible study online at your leisure.

Nearly any program of study that is offered at most colleges will also be available at colleges for Christian distance learning. A Christian college, however, offers that same information along with doctrines that are particularly Christian, which provides the quality Christian education you need.

Check on the Availability of Financial Aid

A number of Christian colleges do not receive aid from the government. This means many college scholarships are not available, although some programs may be in place. Usually, however, there will be some of their own student financial aid that they offer.

As is true of any online degree, you will probably have the opportunity to complete the Christian distance learning courses at your own pace. This makes education reasonable and not as much of a problem, since you retain a good amount of control - enabling you to go either faster or slower - depending on your needs and ability.
